"Wild is the Witch"

3 dancers dressed in red and brown lifting their chests to the sky with palms out and open, luxuriating in the movement Jack Tajerstein

“Wild is the Witch” includes two pieces that explore themes of feminine power, healing, and connectivity. “When I die, put me in the earth” is inspired by a desire to decompose after death and return to the ecosystem, rather than being preserved or cremated. The soloist tries on different movements inspired by elements of the natural world as she seeks to connect with the earth and imagine her next life. “A Spell of Breaking” portrays a coven as they rebuild and reclaim their power after a tragedy. These witches move through a grounded, earthy, and confident movement vocabulary, centering repetition and circularity as they cast their spells. “Wild is the Witch” invites you to own your power, feel the magic, and remember that endings are also beginnings.
