Danspace Announces New Partnership with Wesleyan University and the ICPP

Danspace Project is proud to announce a new partnership with the Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance (ICPP) at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Executive Director Judy Hussie -Taylor is serving as a Senior Advisor to the ICPP, joining Program Director Samuel Miller (President of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council) and Managing Director Pamela Tatge (Director of the Wesleyan Center for the Arts). This partnership is generously supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation*. Ben Cameron, Program Director for the Arts at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation says: "The creation of ICPP is a thrilling advance for the presenting field. The founding partners bring tremendous artistic sensitivity, intellectual rigor and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by performing arts organizations today. We are honored to support this project, which promises to have a profound effect on both current and future performing arts curators."

Starting this summer, the ICPP will offer a low-residency professional certificate program examining curatorial models for contemporary performance. As a founding partner, Danspace Project will select artists from its acclaimed PLATFORM series to participate in artistic exchange during the institute's residency periods.

How to Apply: ICPP applications are due February 1

The ICPP certificate program is designed for working professionals who want to enhance their skills and knowledge base, allowing career advancement, or, if new to the field, preparation for work at a presenting institution or as an independent curator. Students will take courses in artistic and curatorial practice, social and cultural context, and entrepreneurial strategies and complete an independent curatorial project. The program lasts nine months and consists of online coursework with three on-campus residency periods:

July 9-24, 2011
November 18-20, 2011
March 3-5, 2012

Applications are due February 1 for the ICPP Professional Certificate Program. Financial aid is available. Please visit the ICPP website for an application and more information.
