This year’s CLASSCLASSCLASS series will feature 25 teachers in 9 locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Now it its third year, CLASSCLASSCLASS has expanded its range of offerings to include longer teaching periods for veteran teachers, as well as shorter workshops and class series for new teachers. Organizers Jen Rosenblit and Tatyana Tenenbaum are addressing the need for sustained teaching opportunities in the dance community while trying to open up a dialogue with a new generation of dance practitioners.

Thanks to generous support from the DSJJ Fund of Tides Foundation, CLASSCLASSCLASS is able to pay its teachers an hourly rate, alleviating some of the pressure to build large class sizes and allowing teachers to focus on their craft. Additionally, there is a small budget allotted towards live accompanists. This year, classes will range from technique-based work to workshops in applied anatomy and grant writing. Additionally, a 10-hour event The Great Rally on May 30th will feature free workshops each hour taught by community members outside of current CLASSCLASSCLASS teachers. “We are feeling a desire and need for the community to come and be together somewhere between a party, town hall, and improvisatory performance happening,” says Rosenblit.

About CLASSCLASSCLASS

CLASSCLASSCLASS nurtures a continued future of dance pedagogy in New York City by engaging and developing a new generation of dance and performance artists as they teach their craft, while simultaneously making the act of taking and teaching class affordable to all.

Movement Research is partnering with CLASSCLASSCLASS in order to enable a fertile space for newer teachers to experiment with their craft under the umbrella of an established organization. In this partnership, CLASSCLASSCLASS maintains its own mission, goals and modus operandi.
