Advocacy Alert: Stories for NYSCA

Greetings from Dance/NYC!

Happy Anniversary, New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)!

Today the New York City Arts Coalition launched Fifty Years, Fifty Stories, an online video campaign celebrating the 50th anniversary of the State arts agency.

The campaign launched with 12 statements from leading artists and organizations that have benefitted from agency funds, including many artists many with strong ties to dance: Arthur Aviles and Charles Rice-Gonzalez, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance [BAAD!]; Robert Battle, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Yanira Castro, a Canary Torsi; Ping Chong, Ping Chong & Company; Patricia Cruz, Harlem Stage; Garth Fagan, Garth Fagan Dance; Rachel Moore, American Ballet Theatre (ABT); David Parsons, Parsons Dance; Tina Ramirez, Ballet Hispanico; and Carlota Santana, Flamenco Vivo.

In her video, Rachel Moore, Executive Director of ABT, says: “As a former dancer and as an administrator, I can tell you how important and impactful this money is both for the artist and the company, but most importantly for the [wider] community.” Dance/NYC joins Rachel and her fellow dance leaders in celebrating the work the agency has done for dance in New York, and we will continue to advocate the importance of discipline-specific funding.

See the first videos of dance leaders and add your story at www.dancenyc.org.
And please forward, post and tweet the videos to your colleagues and friends.

Thank you, as always, for all you for dance in NY.
