Introducing Raquel Du Toit, Dance/NYC’s New Executive Director
As Dance/NYC enters a new calendar year with renewed energy and a clarity of purpose as an organization, I am thrilled to introduce myself, Raquel Du Toit (she/ella/they), as the new Executive Director of Dance/NYC, starting January 26, 2026.

Dance/NYC has long been a guiding force for the dance field in New York City and across the country. Its commitment to service through advocacy, regranting, and knowledge-sharing is a vital resource for dance workers and organizations, and I am excited to build on this strong foundation while working together to meet the evolving needs of the dance ecosystem. I am honored to lead the organization into a pivotal era grounded in sustainability, collective care, and field-wide support, and I look forward to working alongside a soon-to-be-identified Director of Programming and Operations to guide the organization together as a two-person leadership team.
I bring over a decade of experience stewarding innovative programs across nonprofit arts organizations, museums, and galleries for public, community-based, and virtual audiences. I recognize the urgent need for financial sustainability in artist-led spaces and underrepresented communities, and I remain committed to amplifying marginalized voices, fostering cross-cultural dialogue, and building the economic and structural foundations for enduring artistic futures.
At a time when the arts sector is facing heightened anxiety, inequality, and uncertainty—driven in part by federal-level inequities—I believe strongly in the power of working together locally. This is where Dance/NYC plays a vital role in helping move us forward. Its commitment to justice, equity, and access for dance workers is both timely and essential. I am energized to take on this work, grounded in community, resilience, and the belief that collective care can be a powerful force for transformation. It is an honor to be a part of Dance/NYC’s mission and history, as I believe it is critical that we deepen our programs and seek authentic connections to the community we serve.
I am humbled to serve the New York City metro area dance community in this capacity at this time. I am inspired by your resilience, dear dance community, in the face of it all. I am inspired by you to hold strong and proud, and to ensure dance workers and organizations are recognized and resourced. Together, let us transform our field with courage and care, imagining, building, and sustaining a dance ecosystem where our labor is valued, our communities are supported, and our collective creativity can truly thrive in abundance.
