Get Ready to Vote:
NYC's Primary Election is June 23

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, New Yorkers across the city will vote in the Primary Election. If you are registered to vote with a political party, you can decide who your party's nominee will be in the November general election.

What's your vote plan?
Check your voter registration status. The last day to register or update your registration for the primary is Saturday, June 13. If you've moved recently, the deadline to update your address is Monday, June 8.

If you are registered to vote, there are three ways to vote:

  • Early voting runs June 13–21. Your early voting poll site and hours may vary. Find your early voting site and hours.
  • Vote by mail. The last day to request a mail ballot online or by mail is June 13. You can also request one in person through June 22. Your completed ballot must be postmarked by June 23.
  • Vote on Election Day, June 23. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Find your poll site.

What's on the ballot?
What's on your ballot will depend on where you live and which party you're registered with. In this primary, voters registered with a major political party can vote for:

  • State Attorney General
  • State Comptroller
  • State Senate
  • State Assembly

Some voters may also see U.S. House of Representatives or City Council races depending on their district. Check what's on your ballot.

What is ranked choice voting?
Some races this June will use ranked choice voting, which lets you rank up to five candidates in order of preference instead of choosing just one. If your first choice candidate does not advance, your vote goes to your next choice. Ranking multiple candidates gives you more say in who is elected. Learn more about ranked choice voting.

Are you an immigrant New Yorker?
You may be eligible to vote if you:

  • Became a U.S. citizen through naturalization
  • Became a U.S. citizen through your U.S. citizen parents
  • Were born in Puerto Rico or another U.S. territory
  • Are at least 18 years old by the end of this year
  • Have been a resident of New York for at least 30 days before Election Day

Inclusive democracy means everyone has the right to participate. People on parole or probation can register to vote. People experiencing homelessness can register to vote.

If you encounter any problems while voting, call the Election Protection Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
