Cunningham is a 3D cinematic experience about legendary American choreographer Merce Cunningham. In Theaters December 13th. Below is an interview with the director, Alla Kovgan.  


If I weren’t a dancer, I would be a:

Cunningham director Alla Kovgan: "I am not a dancer. My experience as a performer has to do only with ping pong, which I played professionally as a child growing up in the USSR.
I would have been a dancer if I had a chance. But I can't complain now. I am a filmmaker working with dance for over two decades.
I am on a mission to bring back physicality into big cinema and therefore, introduce amazing movement artists and choreographers worldwide."


What are some of the essential requirements to keep dance alive and growing?

Cunningham director Alla Kovgan: "To think about sustainability, to maintain the community and yet to be open and engage with the world at large, to create legacy and after-life for contemporary dance choreographers."


What is the most important thing you are contributing to the world of dance?

Cunningham director Alla Kovgan: "I am making CINEMA with and about dancers and choreographers, I create legacy and after-life."
