Open Work Sessions, and Casting, for Babcia

woman wolf

BABCIA (Or a Wild Woman by Any Other Name) is a new work of interdisciplinary performance (theatre, dance, and puppetry) being presented in workshop at Dixon Place on May 23rd. Three upcoming open work sessions are meant to help us cast the production, and engage/expand our large community of *female (includes womynx, non-binary, and men who love female-driven art) collaborators in the process by opening up our first few rehearsals to anyone who wants to come create with us.

Directed by Gabrielle Schutz, BABCIA (or A Wild Woman by Any Other Name) explores the handing down of feminine mythology between generations, and what it means to be wild in a culture of increasing structure/exposure. Inspired by inter-generational relationships, the book Women who Run With the Wolves, and my own rule-defying Babcia (grandmother in Polish), this work blends dance, puppetry and storytelling through the aesthetic lens of the Polish folk art of WYCINANKI. Where did we get the colors, shapes, and flaws that define us?

OPEN WORK SESSION DATES:

SUNDAY APRIL 15TH 3-5PM
THURSDAY APRIL 19TH 7-9PM
SUNDAY APRIL 22ND 3-6PM

The work sessions will be a mix of generative work engaging various dance/movement, puppetry and theatrical techniques.

RSVP or Inquire at: schutz.gabrielle@gmail.com. Please send a brief email with a bit about yourself and the date(s) you'd like to attend.
