ABOUT US.

The mission of Play Motion Lab began in an effort to provide affordable classes and workshops as the cost of open classes, workshops, and training for dancers continues to rise unsustainably. It has now expanded as a groundswell and niche space to build community amongst professional dancers actively working in New York.

To date we have served over 400+ dancers and held monthly workshops in San Francisco, Peru, Hawaii, and at our home base at Chez Bushwick in Brooklyn. 

In 2025, Play Motion Lab Play Motion Lab was sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council.

CONTEMPORARY FORMS.

We're excited to announce our first Co-Teacher of 2026, Amy Saunder alongside Founding Director Peter Cheng.

CONTEMPORARY FORMS begins with a full-body guided warm up with Peter, tapping into the inherent mobility and extension of the muscles and joints, coupled with bringing sensory and peripheral awareness of moving in space with others. 

The second half of the session, led by Amy, will focus on improvisation and phrase work centered on texture, tension, and the interplay between shaping and releasing form.
