Dissonance Dance Theatre — 20th Anniversary Season Project Dancers Sought | Washington, DC

Dissonance Dance Theatre (DDT) — recognized by Dance Spirit Magazine as one of "11 small-but-mighty dance companies outside of LA and NYC" and Washington, DC's only Black-managed contemporary ballet company since 2007 — is seeking skilled project-based dance artists for its landmark 20th Anniversary Season.

About the Season

DDT's 20th Anniversary Season features three powerful productions rooted in Black concert dance, contemporary modern, and classical technique:

Through the Dark, The Light Beckons — Premiering at Publick Playhouse, Washington, DC | October 2026
Until Love Comes Knockin' — Premiering at Atlas Performing Arts Center, Washington, DC | Late February/March 2027

Road of Angled Turns — Fear. Fight. Fame. Forever. An evening-length journey through the psychology and power of Black American life, inspired by the world of Wakanda. Touring to Bowie State University and Atlas Performing Arts Center | Date TBD

Who We Are Looking For

Dancers with strong training and performance experience in one or more of the following:

Contemporary & Modern Technique
Classical Ballet
Jazz Technique
African/Africanistic Dance Forms

Minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Apprentices are welcome.

Compensation

$1,000 per rehearsal month (July & January)
$1,000 per production (fall & spring engagements)
Up to $3,000 for full season commitment
Housing assistance available

DDT holds a multi-step audition process to ensure mutual artistic fit:
