Dancewave Seeks Summer Work Exchange Participants
POSITION: Summer Work Exchange Participant
REPORTS TO: Facilities & Rentals Manager
HOURS: Average of 5-10 hours per week as per positional and organizational needs
WORKPLACE: Candidates must be based in the NYC area and able to travel to the Dancewave Center located at 182 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11217. Expected to work 1-2 days per week in person on a weekend evening.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: May 26, 2026
ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: Saturdays 4:00 pm-7:30pm and Sundays 3:30-8:45pm
June-August commitment.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Dancewave offers a work-exchange opportunity for individuals seeking to exchange general administrative support for complimentary studio rehearsal and/or class access. The program is ideal for someone who is looking for frequent studio rehearsal space and/or becoming an active participant in Dancewave classes. This is an entry level administrative position and should be treated as a role equivalent to a paid position.
Responsibilities include:
Front Desk support including answering phones, general in-person inquiries, and message record-keeping
Class Check-In including virtual assistance using Zoom platform as well as in-person check-ins at the Dancewave Center
Studio and Lobby Cleaning
Facility support including assisting Renters & Teaching Artists with technical needs, separating/opening up the studio curtains, sweepings studio floor
Opening and closing the facility
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds to maneuver physical objects at the facility
Must be able to work in person at the Dancewave Center on weekend evenings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
At least one year of experience providing direct customer service
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
Organized and agile problem solver, comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment
Great attention to detail
Interest in Dancewave’s mission and commitment to empowering youth
Interest in arts advocacy
Proficiency with Google Suite

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: For every 2 hours of administrative support, participant earns 1 hour of redeemable credit that can be applied towards studio space or adult class registrations.
